RPV Legal is a chamber styled litigation and arbitration practice. Our boutique set up is rooted in the belief that commercial disputes in modern times require focused advice and advocacy.
The firm’s structure allows us to be highly selective and enables our disputes specialist lawyers to be creative and efficient in the pursuit of success for our clients. The members of our team have acted as counsel in many landmark litigation cases, and high value arbitrations. The chamber styled practice allows our members to receive instructions from other firms and chambers to act as lead counsel in challenging and complex multi-jurisdictional disputes. Our lawyers in their individual capacity, also act as Arbitrator, Mediator, and Tribunal Secretary in domestic and international disputes.
We also have long standing refer ral relationships with leading international firms and full-service law firms in India. Our clientele comprises states and state entities , conglomerates, banking and financial institutions, and several high net worth individuals. We have a reputation of relentlessly pursuing our client’s objectives with the highest integrity and our aim is to provide our clients the sophistication of a big law firm along with the agility and flexibility of a true boutique.
Our premises in New Delhi are close to the major judicial institutions and we have a strong presence in the appellate courts, particularly, the Supreme Court of India.
Our beginnings
Late Mr. Rameshwar Prasad Verma
The early foundations of our practice were laid down in the year 1934, when late Mr. Rameshwar Prasad Verma began practicing law. In the following decades, he earned a stellar reputation as one of the most distinguished and senior members of the Bar at the High Court of Madhya Pradesh in Jabalpur. In a path-breaking legal career spanning over six decades, he served as the founder member of the M.P. High Court Bar Association as well as the District Bar Association, Jabalpur. He was elected as President of the M.P. High Court Bar Association and served as member of the Madhya Pradesh State Bar Council and also as a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Bar Council of India.
In his illustrious career, he handled a plethora of cases with distinction, and was on many occasions appointed by the State as the Special Prosecutor in complex and high-profile cases of the time. His prolific life and career has been a constant source of inspiration for us and we derive our work ethos from the timeless wisdom of honest hard-work and integrity that he left behind.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Verma
Former Judge, Supreme Court of IndiaThe reins of the practice were passed to Justice Deepak Verma in 1972. Under the tutelage and mentorship of his father late Mr. R.P. Verma, he took the chambers to greater heights of excellence. As a lead counsel, he was often instructed by leading law firms in complex and challenging disputes before the trial and appellate courts. He held the reins of the practice until his elevation as a Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh in the year 1994. He was appointed as the Administrative Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh in 2005. During this period, he also served as the Welfare Commissioner for the victims of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. In 2008, he was transferred to the High Court of Karnataka, Bangalore as the senior most judge on the bench and served as the Acting Chief Justice until his appointment as the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court. Thereafter, from 2009 to 2012, he served as Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
Post retirement, he has acted as an Arbitrator (Chairperson, Co-Arbitrator, Sole Arbitrator) in over 100 domestic and international arbitration proceedings under both ad hoc(UNCITRAL, Indian Arbitration & Conciliation Act, 1996) and institutional arbitration rules (ICA, DAC, ICADR, ICC, SIAC etc.)
He has rendered expert legal opinions before International Arbitral Tribunals, Federal Courts in the United States, Courts in England & Whales, and most recently for a European State in an international dispute under Annex VII of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). His expert opinion is regularly sought by leading international firms and global corporations on complex matters of Indian law. He has also acted as Mediator & Conciliator in several high stake commercial disputes in India and internationally. He is empaneled as an arbitrator and mediator in some of the leading ADR institutions in multiple jurisdictions
He also takes a keen interest in academia and serves in the Governing Council of several universities and educational institutions in India.
Justice Verma’s post retirement work as an Arbitrator is completely independent and he plays no role in the management or the day to day functioning of the firm.

The firm’s litigation practice focuses on trial and appellate advocacy. At the trial stage, we have the experience of representing clients in complex civil and criminal matters including white collar crimes, corporate frauds, money laundering, defamation cases, amongst others. As part of our commercial litigation practice, we represent several multinational companies and high net worth individuals in courts and tribunals across India including the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). Our expertise also includes acting for leading banks and financial institutions at the trial and appellate courts including the Debts Recovery Tribunal and Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunal.
The ability to keep up with the dynamic nature of the legal industry, and consequently take swift and targeted measures in relation thereto, is a matter of pride for RPV. With the introduction of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code in India, we have developed a dedicated insolvency practice that involves pre-dispute advisory and acting for clients before the NCLT & NCLAT.
The firm also has an extensive appellate practice at the Supreme Court of India and High Courts and appellate tribunals across the country.

Shashank verma, managing partner
Shashank is a Commercial lawyer with wide experience in handling corporate disputes. He graduated from ILS Law College, Pune and began his career in the Corporate Advisory Team of a leading law firm in India and subsequently joined the Office of the Advocate General of Chhattisgarh as a Junior Lawyer. He possesses over 18 years of experience representing India’s leading Banks, Financial Institutions and conglomerates in various Courts and Statutory Tribunals. He regularly advices corporates from India and abroad on both contentious and non-contentious legal issues.
yugandhara Pawar Jha, senior partner
Yugandhara has over 18 years of rich experience as a corporate lawyer. A graduate of ILS Law College, Pune, she has worked in different positions in some of India’s most reputed law firms and has also headed the transactional law and corporate advisory practice of a prominent law firm in Delhi. She has also held the position of Asst. Vice President Legal of a prominent multinational business processing and information technology services company. She specializes in General Corporate Advisory, Contract Drafting, Reviewing and Negotiating Dispute Resolution and Strategizing. She is also an Advocate on Record at the Supreme Court of India.
Rahul Sahai, senior partner
Rahul is a lawyer with rich experience in Commercial Dispute Resolution. A graduate of ILS Law College, Pune with over 16 years of practice, he has represented various Corporates, Banking and Financial Institutions, and has worked extensively in the domain of Service Laws, Real Estate, and Banking Laws. He is empaneled with leading Insurance Firms and Government Organizations. Apart from being a distinguished legal practitioner, he has also been appointed as Alternate Chairman by Corporations in their Shareholder and Amalgamation meetings. Mr. Sahai’s principal place of practice is before the Allahabad High Court.
Kunal verma, Joint managing partner
Kunal is an Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court of India and leads the firm’s disputes practice in Delhi. A graduate of the ILS Law College, Pune, he started his career in a prominent law firm in Delhi. He has over 15 years of extensive experience in advocacy and has handled complex commercial disputes in the Supreme Court of India, Delhi High Court and various statutory tribunals across the country. He represents some of India’s leading corporates before the Supreme Court of India and various High Courts.
Gautam jha, partner
Gautam is a Senior Dispute Resolution Professional based in Delhi. He regularly acts for leading Corporates in the field of Arbitration and Dispute Resolution/Advisory. He has significant experience of handling matters (both Arbitrations & Court Cases) in the areas of Oil & Gas, Power including Hydro-Power, Infrastructure (Road & Rail), Construction matters, Insurance, Taxation (Direct and Indirect Tax), Government Contracts and Tenders and Joint Venture Disputes, Consumer Protection, just to illustrate. He has represented clients in some very high-stake Arbitrations, in both domestic and International Commercial Arbitrations. Gautam is an Advocate on Record, Supreme Court of India (Third Rank holder) and has appeared before the Supreme Court for last 12 years. In past, he has also represented Union of India as Panel Counsel in the Supreme Court of India for a period of five years.
Jatin Kochhar, counsel
Jatin graduated from a premier National Law University with specialization in Business & Commercial Laws. He represents RPV Legal as a Counsel specializing in Corporate Advisory and Dispute Resolution. He has successfully handled various complex matters dealing with Maritime laws, Corporate Laws, Alternate Dispute Resolution, Commercial Laws, Insurance Laws etc. His expertise also includes handling various high stake Institutional Arbitration with LCIA, SIAC, DIAC etc. among others. He regularly appears before various High Courts and Civil Courts across India.
VIPUL AGRAWAL, COUNSEL
Vipul is a result oriented litigation and alternate dispute resolution Counsel at RPV Legal. He specializes in civil, contractual and commercial disputes and has advised many corporates, institutions and high net worth individuals, successfully strategizing and handling their complex matters and disputes pertaining to road development projects, heavy electrical works projects, land acquisitions, provision of goods and services, cargo carriers and freight transportation disputes, banking and finance matters, insolvency resolution proceedings, property disputes, consumer disputes, etc. among others. He regularly appears before various courts, statutory tribunals and arbitral tribunals and has several favourable judgments and orders to his credit. He is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK (CIArb) which is a globally recognized accreditation in the field of Arbitration.
Ronak arora, counsel
Ronak is a law graduate from Gujarat National Law University. He holds a Master’s Degree in International Commercial Arbitration from Stockholm University. Ronak specializes in international arbitration and dispute resolution. He has been involved in cases pertaining to variety of sectors, including EPC/construction, oil & gas, energy etc. He has also been a part of the coveted Arbitration Academy, Paris. Ronak also has substantive experience in litigation in various High Courts & Tribunals and the Supreme Court, particularly commercial disputes. He regularly advises corporates on varied domestic and international contracts. In addition to his work as a counsel, Ronak often acts as a Tribunal Secretary/Assistant to the Tribunal in many arbitrations under different applicable laws.
sooraj sharma, COUNSEL
Sooraj is a disputes lawyer specialising in international and commercial law and in particular international and commercial arbitration. He acts as counsel, secretary and assistant to the tribunal in arbitration proceedings both under Indian and foreign law. He has considerable experience in disputes relating to Energy, Construction & Projects, Company, Joint Venture/Share Holder Agreements etc. across different jurisdictions. He has been involved in several high-stake disputes in India, UAE and Singapore. He also regularly appears before various courts and tribunals on behalf of private and state entities. Sooraj was educated in India, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Switzerland and trained under some of the most distinguished lawyers and jurists in India.
Gautam mohanty, associate
Gautam specializes in a range of commercial and dispute resolution matters. He has advised domestic and international clients in Commercial Dispute Resolution matters; and has in his previous office represented several clients in arbitrations and matters relating to supply and sale contracts. He has gathered invaluable experience & expertise, inter alia, in handling various types of Commercial Matters, Arbitrations and drafting of commercial agreements. Before joining RPV Legal, he worked with a prominent Disputes Firm in Mumbai, where he used to regularly appear before the Bombay High Court and City Civil Courts. He graduated from National Law University, Odisha in the year 2015 and also has a Master’s in International Business Law from Central European University.
Bhagya k. yadav, associate
Bhagya completed her B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) degree from O.P. Jindal Global University. Ms. Yadav specializes in alternative dispute resolution and litigation, having appeared before various Trial Courts, High Courts, and Tribunals. Beyond her expertise in litigation, Ms. Yadav regularly serves as a Secretary to distinguished Arbitral Tribunals.

Tia is a graduate from National Law University, Delhi. She frequently acts as a Tribunal Secretary and Assistant to Arbitral Tribunals in several arbitration proceedings. While Ms. Majumdar has specific expertise in the broad areas of domestic and international commercial arbitration, and litigation, she also takes a keen interest in inter-disciplinary branches of law that emanate out of the interface between law and technology.
